Evaluation Part 3 (final part)

Overall i have learnt alot about making magaiznes and how hard it actually is to create a style of magazine that is both quite familiar to a reader but that aloso must have some original or different features in it. I am overall very happy with my final product espically compared to my earlier efforts expically the early drafts of my college magazine. I ahve realised how important it is to keep a house style throughout the whole magazine and realised first hand how confussing it is when a magazine does not keep to a constant house style. My photography skills of people have greatly imporved by doing these tasks and have learnt how to combine landscape and person for most effect aswell as learning more about how you can stereotype someone from the pose you put them in. Also i am very pleased at how my photoshop skills have improved - espically seen as i had no prior experience of using photoshop before i started the course.

Overall, I have found this experience a positive one and feel it has helped me with my understanding much more then just doing theory work would off.

Evaluation Part 2

My magazine was not actually aimed at a paticular music scene or group of people, instead i decided to do my magazine about new bands and artists coming on to the major music scene. Because of this i decided to use a vareiety of different models and have them represented differently for the differenct bands to make sure that my magazine covers a range of sterotypes and so it would hopefully appeal to a bigger audience. I would hope that if my magazine was actually going to be produced that it would be distributed by a firm that is interested in helping to find the next great in any or all music scenes.

Evaluation Part 1

For my magazine i tried to keep to a reasonably reconizable layout eg keeping my magaine title in the top left like the NME as you can see in the cover below:

I have also managed to keep a solid house style throughout my magazine mainly using mainly the colours Yellow and Black. Also i used the same back ground on all of my pages:

To get this background i used a photo that i took on my summer holiday to Greece, enlarging the photo every time so that all you could see was the part of the photo i wanted which was the sky:

I also decided to use the same types of font all the way through the magazine to help the continuity of the magazine of the magazine. Also i used a different font for each of the made up bands so it acted like a logo for each of the bands.

I decided to go back and redo parts of my front cover - to make the cover look more professional and i was a bit unhappy with certain parts of the cover

College Magazine Evaluation

Overall i am happy with my college magaizne seen as its my first attempt at producing a magaizine front cover or contents page. I feel that the photos I have used work well with the magazine; however I feel that i could have done with taking more of them so i could choose from a wider selection. I could also have done with having more infomation on my contents page as it looks a bit empty.

For my music magazine I know that I need to properly plan photos to take rather then just go out with a vague idea of what photos I need. Also I need to do a bit more research about the contents of the magazine.

Some Research

Me and Adam decided that the best way to collect infomation about readers of both our magazines would be to make a questionair. Here are a selection of the questions we asked college students:

How many A*s to Cs did you get in your GCSE's?
What subjects have you taken at college?
What genre of music do you tend to listen to?
Would you say you are part of a stereotype?
Have you been to any music events in the last 12 months and if so how many?

This helped us to find out about the people who would be buying our college magazine aswell as helping us to decide what sort of music scene people may be interested in for our music magazine.

Introduction to Music Magazine

For my media coursework i was asked, after producing my college magazine, to produce and complete a front page, contents page and double page spread for a music magazine about a music scene of my choice. At first i was going to produce a magaizne about then rock scene but then decided that it was a better idea to produce a magazine about new bands as i thought this was more of an original and interesting idea.
